Researchers
Javier Belmar
Javier Belmar has a degree in Industrial Technical Engineering specialized in Mechanics (2019). He is currently working in the Brain-Machine Interface Systems Lab at Miguel Hernández University of Elche as a researcher. His main goal is to design and develop an entirely lowcost upper limb exoskeleton in order to control it with a BCI and help in the mobility recovery process of pacients
Luis De La Ossa
Luis de la Ossa has a degree in Industrial Technical Engineering specialized in Electronics (2020) by the Miguel Hernández University. He is currently doing a masters degree on robotics and automation from Alicante’s University, and working in the Brain-Machine Interface Systems Lab at Miguel Hernández University of Elche as a researcher. His current goal is to employ signal processing and classification methods to analyze EEG signals in order to detect the attentional state of patients, to improve the safety and efficiency of their recovery process.

Ana Luisa Sánchez Nava
Ana Luisa Sánchez Nava is a Mexican student from Universidad de Monterrey and she is studying a biomedical engineering degree. Currently she is doing her final degree project with the BMI Systems Lab, which is located in our university. Her project consists in the development of an algorithm in MATLAB so that the main phases of gait (support and swing) can be detected by the inferior joint angles during the continuous gait of healthy users using inertial measurement units (IMUs).
Arantza Sánchez
Arantza Sánchez is an exchange student from University of Monterrey, Mexico where she is studying a degree in Biomedical Engineering. Currently she is working in her final degree project, which consists in the detection of gait subphases from records with inertial measurement units, in the Brain Machine Interface Systems Lab at Miguel Hernández University of Elche.
Tim de Boer
Tim de Boer has a degree in Human Movement Sciences (2020) from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Currently, he is doing a Masters in Artificial Intelligence at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. As part of his masters project, he is conducting research in the Brain-Machine Interface Systems Lab at Miguel Hernández University of Elche, in the field of upper-limb brain-machine interfaces using a low-cost EEG device.
Hayagreev Sivakumar
Hayagreev Sivakumar also known as Guru among his peers is a Master’s student in Computational Neuroscience and Neuroengineering currently an intern working on developing low cost BCI exoskeleton for lower limb movements. He has a degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering and a passion for Neurotechnology. His ultimate goal is to establish two way connection between the brain and a BCI.

Andrés Úbeda
Andrés Úbeda is assistant professor in the Department of Physics, System Engineering and Signal Theory of the University of Alicante, member of the research group HURO and regular collaborator with our lab’s team. He holds a M.Sc in Industrial Engineering from the UMH (2009) and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the UMH (2014).
His main research is focused on studying neuromuscular mechanisms of motor control and coordination by assessing descending motor pathways during movement execution. Other research topics are centered on the analysis of cortical information in the decoding of motor intentions and their use in motor neurorehabilitation procedures, human-machine interaction and assistive technologies in the field of neurorobotics, particularly focused on myoelectric and brain-controlled devices.
Irma Nayeli Angulo Sherman
Irma Nayeli Angulo Sherman is a full-time professor in the School of Health Sciences of the Universidad de Monterrey, in particular as part of the biomedical engineering program. She obtained a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering and Physics from the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (CINVESTAV) at Monterrey’s unit (2017), as well as a Ph.D. in Industrial and Telecommunications Technologies from the UMH (2018). She is currently a candidate member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) in Mexico.
Her current research is focused on biomedical signal processing, in particular EEG for brain-computer interface applications.
